Holler & Squall: Vintage in Brooklyn Store Profile | Apartment Therapy

MP Icon.jpgLocation: Brooklyn
Specialty: Vintage furnishings and accessories
Price Range: ($$) Mid-Range

Gillette, a third generation antique seller from Washington DC, and Zak, schooled in construction in Ashtabula, Ohio, have brought their love of vintage furnishings to Brooklyn. The full name of their store is Holler & Squall: Things Unlimited. The first part is a lyric from a Jimmy Martin song and "Things Unlimited" is a nod to the store owned by Gillette's grandparents in the 1950s.

It's clear that Zak and Gillette have a deep appreciation for heritage and past lives ? a wonderful (and probably essential) quality in vintage resellers. In addition to the nod to Gillette's grandparents in the naming of their store, the couple have named their sons ? Paul Townes and Gilbert Ford ? after their grandfathers. As a perfect complement to Gillette's antique heritage, Zak grew up around the construction industry. Combined the couple have an eye for quality designs and good craftsmanship.

Zak and Gillette source their vintage goods from all over the US. Their inventory is in constant rotation ? the store shifts and changes each week as they add new items picked up from auctions, estate sales and flea markets.
